Sandstone Gardens is not only a shopper’s paradise and gardener’s delight, but it’s also a treat for a foodie set in a luxurious bistro atmosphere. I have eaten there many times and I’ve yet to be disappointed with the seasonal delights set forth by cooks who serve entrees and desserts from scratch. The Starbucks tea is wonderful when served with garden salads topped with red onions and feta cheese. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s watered down tea. You won’t get that here, or anything else that is less than scrumptious.

Some of my favorite dishes have been a meatloaf and mashed potato entree served with buttery black pepper peas, a grilled chicken and alfredo pasta dish with a garden salad and toasted sour dough bread, and a chicken enchilada with fresh corn and tortilla soup.

Sandwich and salad combos offer a good-sized portion for lunch, but I always choose the trio, which includes the entree, a salad or soup and dessert of  double layer lemon, carrot and coconut cakes and a brownie sundae or your choice of cookie. Sometimes the menu will reflect different choices. A delectable dessert offered this past summer was the banana foster bread pudding served with warm brandy and vanilla bean sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I could hardly wait until the ice cream began pooling around the steaming pudding.

Although food taste is most important when dining out, atmosphere counts too. When you enter Sandstone Gardens, it’s through a charming wooden door and into the bistro. Beyond is all manner of home decoration. Depending on what time of year you visit, you will see garden sculptures, harvest wreaths or a myriad of Christmas trees outfitted with glittering birds and candy canes.

After shopping and exploring upstairs and all through the shopping complex, you just may work up an appetite to visit the bistro again on your way out.
